The municipal elections in 300 English and Welsh boroughs, omitting London, resulted in large Labour gains in the 763 seats contested. The nett Labour and Socialist gains thus far is 139 seats, the Conservatives losing 69, Liberals 49, and Independents 21. The Socialists now control Leeds and Sheffield, and havealsomade cmfwyp Sheffield, and have also made ten gains in Stoke and seven in Manchester.
