TRAMWAYS CONFERENCE

EMPLOYEES’ DELEGATES MEET. DOMINION AWARD SUGGESTED. The New Zealand Federated Tramways Employees’ Association openedits annual conference in the Workers’ Hall, New Plymouth yesterday morning. The proceedings are not open to the Press. Delegates present are: Messrs. W. J, Rogers, of Wanganui (president), GHobbs, of Wanganui (general secretary), J. Liddells and P. Carr, of Auckland, E. Snell and L. Brown, of Christchurch, J. McTeague and G. Hill, of Dunedin, R. H. Speckman, of Napier, and A. Allsop, of New Plymouth. After the delegates had been welcomed by the president committees were set up to frame reports on matters to come before the conference. In the afternoon discussions took place on various subjects concerning working conditions on the tramways, and as a result certain representations will be made to the Government. The conference will resume at 9 o’clock this morning, when the proposal to ask for a Dominion agreement will probably be considered- “There is a unanimous opinion among the unions today that a Dominion agreement should be l/tought into operation,” a Daily News reporter was told last night. It is unlikely that the conference will conclude before Friday, at the earliest.
