CABLE RATES INCREASED
PROTEST FROM MANUFACTURERS. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Wellington, Last Night. Considerable alarm is felt by the Association of British Manufacturers and Agents over the new telegraph regulations in regard to deferred rate messages. These are largely used by commercial men and it is considered that the alteration will have the effect of reducing the number feent and also entail a large amount of work in coding and de-coding if they have to be sent at full rates.’ At a meeting of the council to-day an example "was given where a message sent on Saturday cost Ils 4d and to-day cost £2 2s Sd. The council protest strongly against the regulation as a retrograde step, particularly at a time when it is understood the business in cables is distinctly profitable to the department.
