MONTHLY MEETING OF COUNCIL. STRATFORD-CFKAH U KURA RAHAV A Y The monthly’ meeting of the council of the Taranaki Chamber of Commerce was held last night. Present: Messrs J. Me-' Neill (ehairman), S. Burgess, B. E. S. Brodie, C. Carter, F. Hooker, (4. Fraser, P. E. Stainton, H. Masters, A. R. Thompson, W. J. Penn, T. C. List, S. Vickers, J. Holm, J. W. Darby’ and A. F. Sandford. Mr. E. Shaw was granted leave of absence. It was decided to co-operate with the Stratford Chamber of Commerce in a deputation to the Minister on his next visit to Taranaki to protest that more than £lBO,OOO had not been placed on the Estimates for the completion of the Stratford-Okahukura railway. Several members said the matter had always had the active support of the chamber and the opinion was expressed that the Stratford body did well io keep the question alive. A protest at the increase of legislation by Order-in-Council was forwarded by the Hastings Chamber of Commerce, which asked for support in the matter. —-The letter was received, the chamber having previously dealt with the matter. The New Plymouth borough inspector (Mr. R. Day) notified that parking places for motor-cars were: Courtenay, Powderham and Gill Streets (all parallel to Devon Street), Kawau Street, and outside all bowling greens and sports grounds. All the places were marked with red dises and cars had to be parked at an angle of 45 degrees to the footpath. The annual conference of Chambers of Commerce would probably be held in Wellington on November 24 and 25, stated a letter from the association. It was asked that remits should be sent not later than September 11. The resignation of-Mr. G. T. Langley as a member of the chamber was accepted with regret. Mr. Penn reported that Mr. C. H. Bur. gess had agreed to give an address to the next quarterly meeting of the chamber.
