GIFT TO AUCKLAND

BEAUTIFUL PUBLIC RESERVE OTHER GENEROUS BEQUESTS. By Tfchgr;>i>h,—Tress Association. Auckland, Last Night. The late Mr. David Goldie, whose long life of service to the community of Auckland was brought to a close on Tuesday last, has given the citizens of Auckland still further cause to honour his memory by bequeathing to them a splendid area of native bush in the Waitakere Ranges and making a number of handsome bequarts to public institutions in the city. The section of native bush which Mr. Goldie has bequeathed to the city of Auckland to be held as a public reserve, has an area of 475 acres. It is known as "Goldie’s Bush,” and is situated about 23 miles from the city and about four miles from the Waitakere railway station. Tha area is covered with beautiful bush which contains fine totara and kauri trees.

The following are additional bequests made by Mr. Goldie: —Blind £1000; Auckland Museum, £1000; Karitane Home, £500; Salvation Army, £500; St. Mary’s Home, Otahuhu, £500; Y.W.C.A., £500; Flying Angel Mission, £250; Y.M.C.A., £250; Knox Home for Incurables, £250; Young Citizen*’ League, £125; Boy Scout Organisation, £125. In addition there is a bequest to the Alexandra Street Methodist School of £5 annually for library books.
