WAITARA NEWS.
(From Our Own Correspondent.) Waitara, May 5. The Soldiers’ and Civilians’ Club held another of their enjoyable euchre parties on Monday evening, when fourteen tables were occupied at cards. At the conclusion of the games supper was dispensed by the ladies’ committee. ,The winners were as follows: Ladies, Mrs. L. Old 1, Mrs. Birdling 2; men, Mr. H, Dugdale 1, Mr. L. Old 2. The census returns for Waitara have been completed, and show an approximate increase of about 300. The figures of the census taken on the night of April 20 are as follows: 836 males and 887 females; total 1723. The total population of Maoris is 75, which is not. included in the total of 1723. Lady Marjorie Dalrymple will arrive in Waitara on Friday in connection with the girl guide movement, and will address a public meeting in St. John’s Hall in the afternoon. Members of the Taranaki Education Board included Waitara in the visit of country schools on Tuesday afternoon. The members were met by the local committee, who placed before them various matters requiring attention.
