CARRIAGE OF FROZEN MEAT.
NEW RAILWAY CHARGES. PROTEST FROM FEILDING. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Feilding, July 21. The Chamber of Commerce last night considered the amended railway tariff. Special attention was given to the proposed increase in the charge for the carriage of frozen meat which would penalise inland freezing works. The following motion was carried! “This chamber desires to point out to the Railway Board that the proposed increase in the rate for the carriage of frozen meat will have a disastrous effect on the Feilding freezing works and other works similarly established in tbs country districts. The chamber therefore urges that no increase be made in the present charges.” The chamber also discussed the proposed increase in the rate for the carriage of chaff, and adopted a resolution that the proposed increase would be detrimental to the interests of farmers in this district who are now barely able to compete against importations from the Australian and Auckland markets.
