CRISIS EXPECTED.
AUSTRALIAN SHIPPING. By Telegraph.—Press Assn.—Copyright. Sydney, June 20. A crisis in the shipping trouble is expected towards the. end of July or early in August, when j,he articles of practically all the vessels plying between Australian ports will have expired. The crews of over 60 per cent, of steamers sing on and off at Sydney, which is to be the storm centre.
It is expected that the Commonwealth Line will be drawn into the dispute on Monday when the Esperance Bay arrives. The articles expire on Tuesday, and it appears certain the crew will demand the insertion in the conditions of a clause in the new agreement. The seamen offered to modify the original clause to which objection was taken by the owners who, however.. definitely refused to agree to the new proposal. The new clause asked that the wages and general working conditions which were in operation on June 4, 1925, should be applicable to all members of the union employed on the vessels.
