TARIKI SCHOOL.

THE BREAK ING-UP CEREMONY. (From Our Own Correspondent.) The breaking-up ceremony at Tariki School took place on Friday. Mr. Summers (chairman of the School Committee) was present, and gave an interesting address to the children, in wh?bh ha heartily congratulated the teachers and children on the splendid progress made during the past year. In wislgng both teachers and children a merty Christmas and a happy New Year, he expressed the hope that they would all return with renewed health and vigour for their next year’s work, and promising that a special effort would be made to provide a jnorq enjoyable breakingup function in the way of a picnic and school prizes for next year. Mr. Summers then spoke to the children on their work at their agricultural plots, and proceeded to present cash prizes awarded to those children who were among the successful competitors in their group. Of these Master Dave Blanchard was second in his group and received a prize of 10s. Minnie Blanchard was third with a prize of five shillings. Leslie Muller, for calf-rearing in group 3. received a prize-of-ten shillings. These.priz.es were for the 1923-24 season. The awarding of prizes given by local st <;ck-breeders for the best dairy type of calf reared by the children in th!® year’s competition followed, and in this Master Leslie Muller was again successful in winning first prize of 30s. Norman Summers was second, winning a prize of £l. Ada Summers was third and received 10s, Minnie Blanchard was fourth and received 10s, and Ivy Sunders fifth with ss. The local storekeepers remembered the occasions, and gifts were received from jjr. ‘E. R. Newell of a number of fancy pencils and sparklets for presentation to the senior girls and boys. The standard 1 toys and girls, received balloons donated by Mr. C. List, of Inglewood, and Mr. E. R. Newell, and the primer classes breakers from the same donors. A :g<-cd supply of lollies, nuts, etc.,, was given by Messrs. Loveridge Bros., Newell and- Mail.

As the weather was extremely uhfavbrtfable the ceremony was carried out in the ’school. Before closing the head teachtr’ (Mrs. Harrison) was presented by the senior girl of the school (Rosie Eabishl- with a very -handsome bouquet on behalf of the pupils of the school. The gathering dispersed after singing “G**l Save the King” and giving a hearty round of cheering for Mr. Summers and the teachers.
