CHRISTMAS NUMBER.
WINNERS OF PRIZES
INTEREST JN COMPETITIONS,
LARGE ENTRIES RECEIVED. The Christmas Number of the Taranaki Daily News is published this morning. As in ■previous years an important feature is the competitions, and the entries of the winning competitions occupy an important place amongst the wealth of topical reading which fills the issue. The entries established a record, the competitors in the two short story competitions being particularly large, and entries were received from all parts of Taranaki. The school essays also aroused great interest, while the Christmas menu competition claimed the attention of housewives in town and country. The one disappointment was in dhe classes" for original black and white sketches. There were many entries, but the standard of work was below expectations, and the judge (a qualified critic of such work) felt that insufficient skill and originality was shown to merit an award. The judgment has been accepted by the editor and no awards have been made in these classes. The awards in the other competitions are: Original short story (open).
