VISIT OF ELTHAM BOYS’ BAND. Thirty members of - the Eltham Boys’ Band rendered an enjoyable programme of music in New Plymouth yesterday on the occasion qf their annual campaign to raise funds for Christmas cheer at the home. They arrived at New Plymouth in the morning, aud, stationing themselves in Brougham Street, gave a splendid selection of both instrumental and vocal items. A very enjoyable programme was again provided in the evening and the little hand of musicians drew a huge crowd. Collections were taken up during the day. The excellent humanitarian work which is being conducted by the home is well known and the total amount of the hinds realised yesterday constituted a record. The band was not eo strong in numbers as last year, but in spite of this fact their renderings were excellent and greatly appreciated by those who heard therfi. The fifteen singers of the number also gave much pleasure with their many items.

The Eltham home is the only orphan institution in Taranaki and a number of New Plymouth boys are at present being cared for there. When the party returned to Eltham last night they were accompanied by four more. This was a distress case and the children will be cared for and trained in the home until the. parents are in a position to take them, back. J*our fcoys. from New Plymouth were taken into the home after the last visit of the band to New Plymouth, They are very happy and are showing great promise. .The- institution ie nonrseetarian and deserves every encouragement.
