USE OF A DEGREE.
CHARGE OF FORGERY. ENGINEER APPEARS IN COURT, COMMITTED FOR TRIA*.

At the Magistrate’s Court to-day, Ar* nold Edward Rhodes, an engineer, aged 31 years, was charged with forging a certificate, purporting to confer ou him the degree of Bachelor of Engineering. Evidence was given that the accused -had been in the employ of the Vacuum Oil Proprietary from June, 1923, to September, 1924, as a lubricating engineer. The police said the accused had stated that he had taken a course of two and a half years’ duration at a school in Christchurch, and that, 6b completion of the course, die sat for tha examination and passed, and was under the impression that he could use tho B.E. and degree after his name. The registrar of the university gave evidence that the certificate produced was not the university diploma. Accused pleaded not guilty and was committted to the Supreme Court fo< trial.
