LEGISLATIVE ACT.
DUTY OF ELECTORS. A correspondent wrrites: In many of the newspapers throughout the Dominion notices have appeared drawing attention to the amendment of the Legislative Act of 1908, which came into force on November 6 last, but none of ! them have so far made it clear that everybody eligible to vote, whether they are on an existing roll or not, must register before four months have elapsed since the passing of the Act. Clause (2) is quite clear ou this point, and reads as follows: “Save as otherwise provided in this Act, every person qualified to be -registered as an elector for any district (whether or not lie is registered as an elector at the commencement of this Act) shall forthwith, after the commencement of this Act, or after he first becomes qualified to be registered as an elector, make application in the prescribed form to the registrar of th© district for registration as an elector of that district.” Upon inquiring at the office of the chief electoral officer in Wellington, this matter is confirmed, and further,-any elector upon an existing roll can witness the signature of anyone applying for registration in his particular electorate.
