• By Telegraph.—Press Assn.—Copyright. Received Dec. IS. 12.40.7a.m. New York. Dee. 16. Eight persons,,including a woman, died during the three days from drinking poisonous alcoholic beverages. The city health commissioner ‘ (Mr. Monashan) has published a statement as follows: “With the approach of the holiday season and with the spirit: of conviviality abroad. I think ,it well to issue a warning against the use of synthetic liquors. Everyone should avoid them. It must be generally known after the time that has elapsed since the passage of the prohibition law that the sunnly of good liquor Is very limited.”
There are sixty-seven patients in the ward,o-f. the. principal city hospital,, and nearly alt are dangerously I 'lll, eleven being women.
The recent increase in boot-leg sales of fahric.’ited liquors, the 'polic'd believe, is due to heavy seizn lies z f rd in runners hy- the Atlantic coastguards an d the stormv weather making the landing unusually difficult. The police have midf one arrest, the proprietor of a saloon from which it is believed poisonous liquors are emanating.
