AMERICA’S LABOUR LEADER.
DEATH OF MR. SAMUEL GOMPERS. By Telefraph.—Press Assn.—Copyright. New York. Dec. 11. A telegram from El Pa-so, Texas, says that Mr. Samuel Gcmpers, president of the American Federation of Labour, died from a cold .which proved fatal in his over-worked condition, while returning from the Pan-American Labour-Con-gress in Mexico City, according to a despatch at El International. Mr. Gompers was 74 years of age. He was born in London but left for the United States when 13 years of age. He was a prolific writer on questions of interests to workers. For many years he had been regarded as th» leader of the more moderate LabouriLes in the United States. He was strongly opposed to the Communists.
