DROWNED IN SURF.
NEW BRIGHTON FATALITY. By Telegraph—Press Association. Christchurch,. Dec. 15. While surfing at south New Brighton yesterday John Patrick McMullan, 24, a postal mail room employee, was carried out to sea by a strong undertow despite efforts at rescue m«d/ by other swimmers. The body lias not been recovered. McMillian’s parents reside at McMaster Street, Invercargill.
At North Beach two members of the surf club got into difficulties, but were brought ashore after a struggle, during which the line broke and one of the rescue party had an anxious time. He was helped ashore exhausted.
