HOBBS IN COURT. REMANDED WITHOUT BAIL. London,. Dee. 14. On the resumption of the Hobbs case •at Bow Street the prosecuting counsel, Mr. Oliver, said that he would ask for the committal of Hobbs on the additional charge of conspiracy to obtain money by menaces. He declared that the second cheque, which was identified ac Hobbs’ offices by Captain Arthur and Sir Hari Singh’s solicitor and subsequently burned, was a dummy. The real cheque was at present in court.
It was retained with a view to further blackmailing. Counsel mentioned tTiat Hobbs, when going to France, was robbed by a sailor, .whom he prosecuted. It must be a great satisfaction to Hobbs to see a humble rogue imprisoned for theft. Hobbs was remanded till December 19 and bail was refused.
