EIGHT XEW CRUISERS. EXPENDITURE ON BATTLESHIPS. By Telegraph—Preus Assn.—Copyright. Washington Dec. 11. The Senate to-day passe-l the new Navy. Bill providing for an expenditure of 111 minion dollars for eight new cruisers and the reconditioning of eix battleships. . The Bill provides for .the conversion of six capital ships into oil-burners and the construction of several gunboats in addition to the cruisers, with other improvements, including the provision of new boilers in many instances, where the old were found defective, and other modernising improvements which Mr. Wilb-aY, ‘Secretary of the Navy, declares necessary to I,ring the United States to the agreed o. 5, 3 ratio with Britain and’ Japan.
