DARING ROBBERY.
RAID ON A POST OFFICE
COUP IN LONDON SUBURB.
FOUR MAIL BAGS STOLEN
CONTENTS NOT VALUABLE.
By Telegraph—Press Assn.—Copyright. Received Dec. 14, 5-5 p.m. London, Dec. 13. One. of the most extensive robberies for many years took place last night, when thieves raided the post office in NorthWesc London and carried off practically th« whole of the mail, comprising 15 bags, in two motor vans.
The raid was carried out in a most daring manner. The thieves forced the lock of stout iron gates in the yard early in the morning while the staff had ceased work for a few minutes, carried out the mail bags and dashed off in a small motor car. Scotland Yard was immediately informed and a “flying squad” of police scoured various districts.
Iwo out of four bags were found at Rctherhithe ripped open and two intact. Apparently the robbers’ plans miscarried, for it is officially stated that there is reason to believe that not a single registered letter was contained in the stolen bags, though some letters may have included postal orders, etc. -
