THE CENTRE MATCHES* RESULTS OF SATURDAY S PLAY. The heavy wind on Saturday afternoon militated against the beat of play when the local clubs were engaged with the first game in the second round in the Northern Divfeion of the Taranaki Centre’s Shield competition. Although the boisterous wind made bowling difficult, a very enjoyable match was played on th e beautiful green at Vogeltown, which is a decided addition to the many attractions of New Plymouth. The local club had the satisfaction of scoring a well merited victory over Fit’zroy, and they are to be congratulated on their excellent performance in winning by 37 pointe. A very keen and close contest between Fitzroy and Waitara took place at Fitzroy when jhe visitors were defeated by the narrow margin of one point. The wind seriously interfered with accurate play, but the green was in splendid order. SOUTHERN BANNER COMPETITIONS. PATEA DEFEAT HAWERA B. (From Our Own Reporter.) Hawera, Dec. 13. The banner bowling match between Parea and Hawera B (Saturday players) at Hawera to-day provided a closely contested and interesting game. On account of xh e high wind blowing it was decided to play only 21 heads. At the twentyfirst head, however, the points were even, and on another being played Patea gained the decision by one point.
