GALE HAMPERS PLAY. I THREE TEAMS HAVE EYES. (From Our Own Reporter.) Hawera, Dec. 13. Despite the hehvy gale in Skuth Taranaki to-day the cricket fixtures were kept. Manaia defeating Midlands and Excelsior beating Eltham in senior cricket. Stratford, Patea and Okaiawa all had byes, owing to the fact that only one match was played last Saturday. As was to be expected by the nature of the day, there were no outstanding performances with the bat.

EXCELSIOR DEFEAT ELTHAM. The match between Excelsior and Eltham, at Hawera, was an interesting one. Excelsior compiled 111. and Eltham made a great effort to reach them, but some of their beet batsmen were unlucky. Manaia saved a draw with Midlands, at Manaia, by dismissing the Hawera team just on time, although Manaia had a good lead in runs. JUNIOR GRADE. MIDLANDS B. BEAT TECHNICAL B. Midlands 8., playing at Hawera, gained a three-point victory over Hawera Technical School B. Batting first the School team were dismissed for 33 runs, Campbell (13) being the only batsman to reach double figures. Bigham took no wickets for 4 runs, Eiitwisrle, none for 7, Vinnicombe, four for 5, and Taylor, four for 8. Midlands E. replied with 133, the best scorers being Mahoney (37), Fairweather (24 not out), Wells (24), and Lendrum (17). Gane took four wickets for 34 runs, Warren, three, for 41, Beauchamp, two for 34, Ching, none for 16, and Duckworth one for 4. In their second innings Technical B. reached only 29 Beauchamp (12) being the best scorer. Dowdle took six wickets for 5 runs, Lendrum, one for 20, Fairweather. two for 0, and Maloney, one for 1.

A drawn game was played on Saturday between the Rangitikei B. cricket, team and Manawatu, at Palmerston North. The home team was much superior.
