WEST END SCHOOL.

MEETING OF COMMITTEE. The monthly meeting of the West End School Committee was held on Thursday night. Present: Messrs. Jas. Garcia (chairman), Jas. Hooker, Jas. Lobb, M. G. Nasmith, T. R. Julian, G. Mclsaacs, C. 0. Berg, W. Jones, H. J. Abram (secretary) and J. W. Thomas (headmaster). The headmaster reported that the roll number was now 538, several families having left the district. The attendance had been slightly affected by mild influenza, the average for the last three weeks being 505, 493 and 489. Four of the trainees (Miss Valentine and Messrs. Hawkes, Jillett and Julian) terminate their duties at the end of the year. All had carried out their duties in a thoroughly capable and conscientious manner and gave promise of becoming excellent teachers. The proficiency examination of the sixth standard pupils would be held on Friday, and the tests in geography, history, etc., next week. Owing to the examination next Wednesday, the sixth suindard pupils would be unable to attend the breaking-up ceremony until late. The swimming season had opened and classes from the school were regularly taking swimming exercise. The broken windows had been repaired. The report was adopted. It was resolved to place on record the committee’s appreciation of the splendid work done by the trainees and to wish them success in their future career. The visiting committee (Messrs. Lobb and Mclsaacs) reported on various matters, which will be attended to, and Messrs. Mclsaccs and Nasmith were appointed for the ensuing month.
