KAWAROA PARK SOCIETY.

A SUCCESSFUL A’EAR. CHAIRMAN’S REPORT. That the Kawaroa Park Society has just completed another very successful year is recorded in the chairman’s annual report which will be presented at the annual meeting of the society to be held next Thursday. The financial position is particularly sound and all members have cooperated in making the resort more popular than ever. The report is as follows: In presenting the 12th annual report of the society I have to express sincere gratification in recording another very successful year. The financial position of the society is particularly sound, as an examination of the balance-sheet will show. The total receipts from all sources amounted to £1166 19s 4d, being £36 in excess of the previous year’s income, and the credit balance oh the year’s accounts is £327 13s. The principal sources of revenue were the Easter picnic, £621 18s 9d; afternoon teas, £l7l Ils 6d; donations, £147 17s 6d; rent, £72 15s; euchre parties and dances, £Bl 9s 2d; and borough subsidy, £5O. The principal items of expenditure were: Wages, £365 18s 6d; picnics, £l6O 6s; afternoon teas, £135 16s 2d; and other smaller amounts making a grand total of £764 18s sd. The amount written off in- depreciation on buildings and plant is £74 7s lid. The assets of the society are estimated to be worth £3633 Is Id, including cash in the bank amounting to £667 Ils 4d, showing that the position is a very sound one. In this connection, however, it should be mentioned that the laying down of the tennis courts bas involved an expenditure of about £3OO. These are almost completed and it is necessary to allow for the payment of the cost of that work almost immediately by deducting the cost from the total credit in hand, which will still leave the society with a sum of over £3OO to carry on the work of the new year. TIJE YEAR’S CHANGES. Such a satisfactory position has been brought about by the untiring efforts and splendid co-operation of the members of the committee, together with the support of a continually increasing number of wellwishers of the park, and for this I desire to express to all concerned my very sincere thanks. In doing this I desire also to note our regret at the death of some members of the committee, and the removal of others from New Plymouth. Among the latter was Mr. H. J. Gray, who so efficiently filled the position of secretary. He is to be congratulated upon his appointment to the position of postmaster at Awakino, but his removal was a serious loss to the committee and society. His place * was filled by the appointment of Mr. H. G. Andrews, who has proved a worthy successor. Tha AnajaLv la

who have supported it by monetary and other donations, including the Borough Council for their subsidy, and especially to Mrs. Alice Honeyfield, of Sydney, for the handsome donation of a children’s paddling pool. Such support is very encouraging to the committee, who accept it as an assurance of satisfaction at the manner in which the affairs of this popular seaside resort are administered. WORKS UNDERTAKEN. The principal work undertaken during the year has been the laying down of tennis courts. These will be a splendid acquisition to the many means of amusement provided at the park, and will be a source of revenue to the society, meeting, as they will, the rapidly increasing demand for accommodation by tennis players. The greens have been proved very

is growing continually. The grounds have been maintained in excellent order throughout, for which praise is due to the custodian (Mr. S. Coad). The Easter picnic was a record success and returne4 the fine sum of £621 18s 9d. In conclusion I desire to express my personal thanks to the officers of the society and members of the committee, and especially the ladies’ committee for unfsiting attention to the work of providing afternoon teas in the Bungalow, which they have carried out with their customary enthusiasm, bringing credit to themselves and giving satisfaction to the patrons of the Bungalow. Thanks are also due o Mr. J. Brown, the Borough CoimoiL representative on the committee. I IruSb th 4 the incoming committee will carry or the work as harmoniously as has been tie case in the past, and that they will le accorded the same measure of loyal /Upport jrom all quarters whieft pMt
