PAKURANGA HUNT CLUB. THE ACCEPTANCES. By Telegraph—Press Association. Auckland, Last Night. Acceptances for the Pakuranga Hunt Club's meeting are:— PAKURANGA HUNT CUP. About three miles.

THE CYPHER TO SPELL. deceived Sept. 26, 8.45 p.m. Sydney, Sept. 26. The Cypher has been scratched for all the Randwick spring meeting engagements and also the Melbourne and Caulfield Cups. Thia Is the outcome of springing a tendon three weeks ago. The owner is acting upon the advice of the trainer and a veterinary. The trainlr states that the tendon has made a good recovery, but the seat of the Injury is there and it might mean a compdete breakdown if training was persevered with. It to widerstood the horse's leg will lie blistered and the horse will be treated to a spell before it Is asked to train again. - RACING FIXTURES. Sept. 27.—Napier Park R.C. spring. Oct. I.—fiawke’s Bay J.C. spring. Oct. 2.—Kurow J.C. spring. Oct. 4.—Pakuranga Hunt Steeplechase. Ort. 9, 11.—Dunedin J.C. spring. Oct. 10, 11.—Masterton R.C. spring. TURF TOPICS. (By “Moturoa.”) Napier Park races to-day. Masterton weights are due on Monday. Hawke’s Bay Guineas on Wednesday next. Bumptious is in good fettle for forthcoming engagements. Most people are wondering if Wassail will start at Napier to-day. Happy Days scored again at Awapuni, Three wins in five days Is good going. Superior condition landed War Loan a winner in the Manawatu Hunt Cup. Te Toa ran two good races at Awapuni on Wednesday, and will strip a fit horse at the Pakuranga meeting next week. Gay Bobbie had nothing to beat in the Bracelet at Palmerston. Adrienne looked <as poor as a crow when sent out to contest the Manawatu Hunt Cup, and the last half mile had her tiring to a walk Owing to the death of Mr. E. Short, of Feeding, Wilderness was not started at Awapuni on Wednesday. The late Mr. Short bred and raced some moderate horses In his day.

Birthmark was sent out an even money favourite in the Malden at Palmerston, and just failed to beat the hitherto disappointing Kanaka. Followers of form could hardly have missed Bonibrook and Diamond Nap at Awapuni. Both have scored lately. The sensation of the week was the blowingup of the tote house at. Avondale. Disappointed punters often feel like doing something rash, but this latest madness must have been the work of a kill-joy. For winning the Avondale Cup Gold Light’s weight in the New Zealand Cup has gone up to 9st. Ten New Zealand Cup candidates have won races since the weights appeared, and there Is every chance of a large and very fit crowd lining up for the big race at Rlccarton in November. A good crowd of hurdlers will be seen out at the Napier and Hawke's Bay meetings. On recent form Highway, Crown Coin and Jovial should pay their way at these nujtItfgs. Gaze is in splendid racing order at present, and if reserved for the County Hack Handicap at Greenmeadows is sure to have a large following. Another smart hack likely to show up at the meeting is Gardenia, who figures in the Ahuriri Hack Handicap. Oney Cox was unable to attend the races at Awapuni on Wednesday last. On his arrival at Palmerston from Avondale he became suddenly ill, and was bustled into hospital. "Gloaming beaten, but not disgraced,” is the chief heading in the Sydney Referee which discusses Heroic's Chelmsford Stakes’ victory. The Referee states that Gloaming exhibited "a wonderful exhibition of speed," and that “the old horse to far from a back number,” Details of the running show that Gloaming had the race apparently won in the straight when he easily Tan past Ballymena and Golden Voice, but Ballymena left the rails, and, in

a flash. Heroic, who was hopelessly boxed-in, dashed through and collared Gloaming in the laat bit. Heroic Is a great colt, but he had all the luck in hto favour, asd he lost nothing by having the services of the crack New Zealand horseman, Ashley Reed. As It was. the nine furlongs were left behind in Imln. 50 l-ssec—which is Australasian record time for the distance, the previous best being All Sunshine’s Imln. 50 3-ssec, also registered at Randwick. Father's Voice has shown Improved form since his arrival in Sydney, and his owner, Mr. Wilfred Stead, has been pestered with numerous buyers, but lias turned down tempting offers for the three-year-old son of Absurd —Shrill. Last season Father’s Voice started on seven occasions, scoring three firsts and a second, and over middle distances he appears likely to win a lot of races this season. Mr. ' Knight also has been inundated with offers for Ballymena, but in turning down one of 5000 guineas for a gelding he is certainly very game. Few geldings are worth that money, though Ballymena may prove to be another Gloaming. Sydney writers are up in arms at statements which appeared in a Wellington journal to the effect that New Zealanders were “not wanted" in Australia, and assert that this to a libel on Aussie sportsmen, who are always keen to see New Zealanders in action, and welcome them in no uncertain manner. This may b« correct, but one cannot overlook the fact that Aussie scribes were not very enthusiastic over the phenomenal success of New Zealand-owned geldings In the A J.C. Derby, and more than one expressed the opinion that horses of tills class should not be permitted to race for the blue riband of the Australian Turf.

The good word spoken of E'vaette as a hurdler nearly bore fruit at Awapuni on Wednesday, when she ran a great race in the Hack Hurdles. Atapo, Elvaette and Bonibrook were almost on terms at the last fence, but once -over, Bonibrook swerved and nearly brought Elvaette down. L. G. Morris was severely reprimanded for careless riding on Bonibrook, and though the result may not have been materially affected, it appeared as if Elvaette would have been second but for Interference. Elvaette is worth keeping In

It is becoming, the fashion nowadays to dispute the judge's decision, and at Avondale on Monday there was a demonstration against the judge when Dazzling Light was relegated to fourth place in the Guineas, some biassed persons apparently considering that the filly, which finished out wide under the judge’s box, had actually won. Those in a position to judge were equally certain that the placing was quite correct, so that ends the argument. DazzT.ing Light has developed Into a slashing three-year-old. and will be worth watching this season. Bred as she is, by Kllbroney— Simper, and therefore full-sister to Affectation and Razzle Dazzle, and half-sister to Gold Li'ght (by Hyinettus), she could hardly fall to be a top-notcher.

Suspicion, the aged Mystification—Tattlt* gelding, is spoken of as one of the most promising for hurdle honours in Hawke's Bay this season, and his running at Greenmeadows will probably enlighten us as to his capabilities over the small sticks. Last season he was saddled up on eleven occasions, but failed to gain a place in any cf his efforts. Still, he wotild not be the first flat failure to turn out useful over sticks. The Kerttball team for the Napier Park and Hawke’s Bay meetings is a strong one, and will include Bumptious, Avonlea, Standard. Kilmint, Race Day, Hymestrason and BirkenelP.a. They should get some money on the trip. Loughrea was not paid up for on the first, day at Geraldine, and. owing to the hard tracks, to a tri/le backward in condition at present. Taranaki tracks have been very wet this spring, and we cculd spare southerners a quantity of our mud 1
