WAITARA NEWS.
Male choir concert. (From Our Own Correspondent.) Waitara, Sept. 26. The Male Choir concert, held on Wednesday evening in the Theatre Royal, did not receive the amount of patronage the excellent programme warranted, there only being a fair attendance. The conductor (Mr. F. W. G. McLeod), prior to the concert, stated that several of the members were suffering with colds, but nevertheless they hoped to thoroughly entertain the audience. He also complained that they were not allowed to shift the piano on to the stage, which was another disability, as anyone with musical knowledge would readily understandVarious items by the choir were well rendered, and the part song, “In Vocal Combat,” was exceedingly good. The Melody Four came in for repeated encores, as did Mr. and Mrs. A. B. MacDonald in their numbers. Another pleasing item was the violin playina of Mrs. N. Black. GENERAL ITEMS. Waitara is to be favoured with a visit of the Right Rev. A. W. Averill on Sunday, November 23, on his annual visit.
The ladies’ hockey dance, held last evening in the Clifton Hall, proved most successful, despite the weather. The hall was tastefully decorated, and presented a bright appearance. Messrs. L. Sampson and F. Laponple capably carried out the duties of M.C.’s.
