A statement haa been published in 'Christchurch that the Government is facihg a serious crisis over its taxing reduction proposals, but inquiries here indicate that the Reform Party is con fident of carrying the Bill by a small majority. The Land and Income Tax Amendment Bill was introduced in the House this afternoon by Governor-General’s massage. Mr. Massey said it was for the most part a machinery measure. Its most important clause wae No. 2, which gave effect to the changes made by the public accounts committee that instead of the land tax being reduced by 10 per cent, it should be reduced by 5 per cent., and the balance applied to the relief of s those who were carrying mortgages, a suggestion with which he entirely agreed, first time.
