WAITARA NEWS.

GENERAL ITEMS. (From Our Own Correspondent.) Waitara, Sept. 19. At a recent meeting of members of the Soldiers’ and Civilians’ Club it was decided to purchase an additional billiard table. This is very necessary as it has long been recognised that one table wa<H insufficient for players. The money required has been generously lent by a local resident free of interest for two years and the members are grateful for the offer. The annual meet big of the cricket club, called for Thursday last, was poorly attended and was postponed to a later date. It is hoped that intending players will show a little mk>re interest and help the officials to reorganise and place a team in the field again this season. Motorists are getting busy with the object of forming a sub-‘branch of the recently formed North Taranaki Automobile Association. A meeting is to be called shortly, when Ne*w Plymouth delegates will be present. Mr. F. Pitcaithly, of the Bank of New Zealand staff, has received notice of transfer to Hawera, which I understand carries promotion. To mark the esteem in which ho is held a large number of friends met at Mr. Sutherland’s residence, where he was presented with a handsome suitcase, a pleasant evening being spent. Mrs. W. Birdling, who has been on a health recruiting trip to the South Island, has returned much benefited. She speaks of the splendid weather that has prevailed in Otago. There has been practically no rain for weeks and drought prevails in some parts.
