FIRE ON LINER.
BURNING FOR A WEEK. ANXIOUS TIME ON BOARD. VESSEL REACHES PORT. DAMAGE NOT KNOWN. By Telegraph.—Press Assn—Copyright. Received Sept. 19, 9 p.m. Fremantle, Sept. 19. The Federal liner Northumberland, from Liverpool, which sent a wireless message last night that she was rushing to port as fast as possible with a fire raging in No. 4 hold, has arrived. The fire is still smouldering, but it is under control. It started on Friday, and the crew had an anxious time. Utilising water and steam cylinders, the fire was kept in check till the vessel reached port-
The hatch where the outbreak started contains over a thousand bags of parcels post and mails for the various States, besides general cargo, including rubber goods. The damage will not beknown till the hatch is opened.
