MORE OPIUM.
DISCOVERY ON STEAMER. CHINAMAN’S BIG SUPPLY. CLEVERLY CONCEALED. By Telegraph-Press Association. Christchurch, Last Night. As the result of a search by Mr. Reynolds, a Customs searche rat Lyttelton, a further thirty-seven tins of opium, valued at £4BO, were found in the cabin on the liner Sussex of the Chinese carpenter, wha is now ‘n custody i n Wellington on ft charge of smuggling. The total value of the opium seized now reaches £1650.
Noticing that the two drawers under the bunk would not pull right out but stuck a few inches from the end Reynolds took the fitting to pieces. Neatly fitted into the rear of each drawer were tin of opium resembling in shape pocket torches. The find will be forwarded to Wellington to-morrow.
