COASTAL SHIPPING. THE OFFICERS’ AWARD. Bf Telegraph—Press Association. Wellington, Sept. 16. The industrial dispute as to officers’ rates of pay and the conditions of work in the coastal shipping trade were before the Conciliation Council to-day The employers are applicants in the dispute. Minimum rates of pay offered by employers are: (a) Steamers, 10) to 600 gross tons, masters £34 6s Bd. chief officers £25 6s Bd, second offioers £2l Us 8d; (lb) steamers 600 to 1000 tons, masters £36 6s Bd, chief officers £26 6s Bd. second officers £22 6s Bd. The guild claim is: (a) Master £3B. chief officer £25 ss, second officer £22 ss, (b) master £4O, chief officer £25 15s, second officer £22 153. After a brief discussion it was decided to defer for the president consideration of rates of pay. The parties agreed to the clauses regarding the time-book and the home port of officers. They also agreed on a clause dealing with the victualling allowance, masters and officers to receive 12? 6d a day or £3 3s a week for victualling and allowances; for accommodation only, 5s 6d per day; victualling only, 8s 6d per day. There was also an agreement on the employers’ clause relating to annual holidays corresponding to the existing award.
