Jellicoe) during a visit to the college yesterday His Excellency was accompanied by Lady Jellieoe and the Hon. Lucy Jellieoe and suite. The cadets of the college and the girls were drawn up in one of the classrooms owing to the inclement weather, and they greeted His Excellency with the National Anthem. Mr. J. S. Connett. on (behalf of the board of managers. briefly welcomed the party, expressing pleasure at the foot that His Excellency had been able to include a visit to the college in his itinerary at New Plymouth. It was but a repetition of the many favours His Excellency had bestowed on the people of New Zealand during his term of office, and which had won for him such a warm place in the hearts of the peopleMr. Connett also referred to the great encouragement His Excellency had given the hoys in their shooting by means of his trophies, and concluded by wishing Their Excellencies, on behalf of the scholars, staff and board, long life and the best of health.

Mr. A. L. Moore, director of the college. also welcomed the party, stating in response to inquiry from Mr. Connett. that lost year the school had gained the highest place among the Now Zealand schools in the Imperial Challenge Shield competitions, but owing to the handicap had had to take second place. The boys, however, had recognised the justice of the handicap and had been the first to congratulate, their confreres of the New Plymouth Beys’ High School. Replying, His Excellency expressed his pleasure at being able to visit the college, and congratulated the boys on the high place they had gained in the shooting competitions. He admired them for that, but even more he admired them for the true spirit of sportsmanship they had displayed. What he felt about the boys in the smaller schools was that they were playing for their side more than for themselves, thereby enhancing the prestige of this great Dominion as a whole. This was the right spirit, and brought New Zealand up to the high position it had gained in the shooting erfinpetitions. Quoting from the report of the National Rifle Association, His Excellency referred with pleasure to the fact that New Zealand had greatly improved its position in the Imperial Challenge Shield competitions, and also in the number of teams the Dominion had entered. His Excellency hoped that this improvement would continue and that next year one of the smaller schools would win the competitions.

The staff and the college prefects were then presented to His Excellency, who afterwards inspected the cadets. Bouquets were presented to Her Excellency and the Hon. Lucv Jellieoe by Christine 'Barnden and Claudia Larkin The visit was closed with cheers for Their Excellencies.
