ENTERTAINMENTS.

THE PEOPLE’S. (< WANDERING DAUGHTERS.” Delightfully blending the emotions of two girls of contrasting natures in search of romance, “ Wandering Daughters,” James Young’s First National picture version of an original story by Dana Burnet, will be screened at the People’s to-night and to-morrow night. Devoid of the dry sentiments of so many pictures dealing with timely topics, “ Wandering Daughters ” is said to be a pleasingly .different and highly entertaining drama, appealing to the most discriminating critics of the screen. The cast is headed by Marjorie Daw, Margaret de la Motte, William V. Mong and Noah Beery. Alice Howell, the inimitable comedienne, takes her fling in drama in the role of the slavey. Her attempts to keep up the pace set by the example of her employer’s daughter are as ludicrous as the satire of the story. The People’s management are also screening on this programme, the coinmen - 1 ng chapter of a new serial st'ory, - G, xhe Steel Trail.” William Duncan and Edith Roberts are starred and the s-tory deals with the construction of a huge railroad. The popular Duncan has. the post of the engineer in charge of the construction works. There are many beautiful outdoor scenes. The supporting programme is advertised. Admission prices are 9d and Is 3d. I ’ EVERYBODY'S. “MERRY GO ROUND.” The pathetic little romance of an organ-grinder who found her Prince Charming in a rich idler who visited the great Viennese amusement park in which she was a mere cipher, is the basis of one of the best Aims that have been screened in New Plymouth for months. She fell to his seductive allurer mts, but, as she became more attractive to him in contact with a brighter intellect,, he, who had intended only the usual passing diversion, with no thought of the consequence to her, fell deeply in love with her beautiful and sincere nature. Thia is merely the skeleton on which has been built a strongly dramatic play in “ Merry-Go-Round,” screened at Everybody’s Theatre last evening for the first time. It is a glittering spectacle of life in Vienna, possessing a gripping story .of the revelries and luxury of an emperor’s court. Mary Philbin, a new screen beauty, and Norman Kerry, aided by a specially selected cast, act with realism amid settings of magnificence. The picture tells the story of a little Viennese organ grinder’s love for a count. He regards her as a plaything, but her innocence, beauty and sincerity make so great an .impression on him that he ultimately marries her. The music rendered by Everybody’s Symphony Orchestra has been specially arranged for the “ Merry -Go-Round,” and it is a distinct adjunct to a thorough understanding of the story. “ Merry-Go-Round ” screens again to-night and finally tomorrow night. The plans are at Collier’s.
