The official report on the murder of O’Dowd states that the native who instigated the killing has been shot, and measures are being taken to arrest other participants. No details of the crime are available. One of the Sunday papers published on March 2 a story gleaned from the passengers by a steamer which arrived from New Guinea, of the murder by natives of a recruiter named O’Dowd.
