BERLIN HAPPY.
JOYFUL CHRISTMAS SCENE. PLENTY OF FOOD AND MONEY THE SHOPS CROWDED. By Telegraph—Press Assn. —Copyright. Received Dec. 23, 5.5 p.m. London, Dec. 22. The Berlin correspondent of the Times says the city has made up its mind to enjoy Christmas. The most joyous and irresistible wave of cheerfulness prevails, and the streets are crowded and the shops and markets packed densely, while everybody apparently has plenty of money to spend. A walk through the streets proves the falseness of the picture drawn by newspapers which love to depict the privations of the populace in the gloomist colours. The public is buying most freely, in spite of high prices. There is plenty of £'ood in the markets, and the streets are ’ alive with smart motor cars. Everybody seems to be buying presents. The German has no use for militaiism, however, and there is no demand for soldier toys, while mechanical toys are all the rage.
