NATIONAL GENERAL STRIKE.
THREAT OF LOCOMOTIVE MEM. BALLOT TO BE TAKEN. By Telegraph—Press Assn.—Copyright. Received Dec. 23, 5.5 p.m. London, Dec. 22. The delegates to a conference of the Society of Locomotive Engineers and Firemen decided to take a ballot of members on the Wages’ Board’s award. In the event of a rejection of the findings, the executive will call a national strike. The locomotive men’s attitude is due, it is explained, to the rejection of their counter claims, including increased pay for Sunday nights, twelve days’ holiday with pay, and an eight hours roster instead of nine. The Daily Herald (Labour) says that making the general conditions worse in the face of these claims has tended to intensify the criticism of the award.
