SHOT HIS BROTHER.
A TRAGIC FATALITY. HANDLING LOADED RIFLE. ACCIDENTAL DISCHARGE. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Gisborne, Last Night. An inquest was held at Pouawa on Saturday concerning the death of John Christophers, twelve years of age, as a result of a wound by a pea rifle bullet. Evidence was given that deceased’s brother, Raymond Owen Christophers, seventeen years of age, entered his younger brother’s room with a pea rifle to make arrangements for both lads to go out shooting. As the elder brother was leaving the room the younger one called to him to help to shift the bed, on which the younger lad was lying. The elder boy turned round suddenly, and by soma means the rifle exploded. A verdict was returned that the causa of death was a bullet wound through the heart, the said wound being occasioned by the accidental explosion, of the rifle held by the brother of deceased.
