GRASS FIRES.
CHECKED IN CANTERBURY. By Telegraph—Press Association. Ashburton, Dec. 22, Over a hundred men fought the griss five yesterday, subduing it after fire hundred acres had been destroyed. Fighters rushed in from Mayfield, Momt Somers, Lismore and elsewhere with sacks, branches and other wcapofis. The property owners were Messrs. Withell Bros., A. Morrison and Ferguson.!
