THE WOOL MARKET.

MORE RECORD PRICES. KEEN SALE AT DUNEDIN. By Telegraph—-Press Association. Dunedin, Last Night. The first wool saje of the 1923-24 season was concluded to-day. The total offering brought forward for this sale was 17,450 bales, as compared with 10,053 bales for the first sale of last season. This is the largest offering evsKMcatalogued for a December salv in Dunedin,“and Is accounted for by the fact that the weather conditions for shearing have been ideal, and that practically every grower who had wool available was anxious to take advantage of the extreme prices a, jhable at the present moment, rather than r'sk holding his wool for a later auction. The bench of buyers was the most representative ever seen at a colotJal auction sale. There were buyers direct!)’ representing the British Isles, Canada, United States of America, Japan, France, Italy, Belgium. Rolland, Germany and Switzerland. besid-?s probably other European countries and States. It Is easily understood what direct shipment means to the purchaser, and this in turn also explains how it is possible to obtain figures for our wools which are undoubtedly above to-day’s London equivalent. Taken all round the quality of the clip as represented by the offering is above the normal season.
