TO TEACH CHILDREN.

GOOD CLASS OF APPLICANT. EXPERIENCE IN TARANAKI. YOUNG MEN COMING FORWARD. “Th 6 type of applicants for positions as pupil teachers and probationers this year is exceptionally good, I consider,” was the respense made yesterday by the secretary of the Taranaki Education Board (Mr. H. W. Insull) to a Daily News reporter. Applications are at present being invited from those anxious to join the ranks, and already thirtytwo names have been sent in, although applications do not close till December 15.

Upon the standpoints of character, physique and educational attainments, Mr. Insull has based his opinion that the young persons applying are generally of a very good stamp. The attractions offered by the profession are evidenced by the increase in applications from young men during recent years. A few years ago the experience of the Taranaki board was that only two or three young men applied each year. Today the conditions have changed, as is shown by the fact that half the applications so far to hand are from members of the sterner sex.

There will be about thirty vacancies to fill for the opening of primary schools next February, and, as over two weeks still remain for applications to be sent in, it is considered that the board will have a big list from which to make the best selection. Prospective teachers would be wise to see the secretary on making their applications, as a personal interview is obviously the most satisfactory course for both parties.
