END OF JOY-RIDE.
TWO MONTHS’ GAOL. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Christchurch, July 9. Samuel Robert William Smith, aged 28, pleaded guilty tp the wrongful conversion to his own use of a motor-car which he drove up the Hill Road at Sumner, finally losing control, and toppling over a dangerous cliff. The police stated that the damage reached £lOO, but there was no chance of recovering that sum from Smith, who was also charged with vagrancy. The magistrate, when imposing two months’ imprisonment, said that the penalties under the Act were not nearly enough.
