“WEEK FOR THE EMPIRE.”

BRING THE CHILDREN. Perhaps the most important part of the scheme which South Taranaki has launched to advocate “British Goods for British People” is the effect of such a movement upon the children. The child learns most quickly through the r eye, and the committee are making I every effort for children of Taranaki and south as far as Wanganui to be brought to see the exhibits of British goods, and the windows of the shops which will be dressed with displays of British goods. This week the organiser, Mr. L. O. Hooker, had 8000 circulars sent out to the great district between New Plymouth and Wanganui, and the special fares from the railway stations are set out. The school-children’s return fares are very remarkably cheap, the highest being from Wanganui, 2s 2d for children up to 15; teachers and children over 15 years, 2s 9d; adults, 3s 9d. The circular gets out clearly the various attractions and the number of children who have to travel in parties to obtain these privileges will be very large. Days will he allotted to the various schools, and head-teachers are asked to reply to the organiser by Tuesday, June 18, stating how many children they will be bringing, so that the necessary arrangements can be made with the Railway Department. Lunch will be provided free for all the children attending, and the only expense in addition td the railway fares will be the price of admission to the show—sixpence each.
