THE HIGH SCHOOLS.

LINK WITH TECHNICAL COLLEGE. AMALGAMATION PROPOSAL. SUGGESTED SCHEME APPROVED. An important proposal involving the amalgamation of the New Plymouth High .Schools with the New Plymouth Technical College is likely to come to fruition in the near future. The question has been discussed privately by the principals of the schools affected and by their governing bodies, and as a result of round table and other discussions a scheme is being laid before the Education Department. Tentative acceptance of the scheme of amalgamation by the High Schools Board was contained in a letter to the Technical College Board of Managers last night. The High Schools Board advised that they were favorably disposed to such a course, provided that the necessary additional aecomnfodation and equipment for vocational training was provided at the Boys’ and Girls’ High Schools. They also stated that they would expect to be consulted in any alterations of the regulations which might become necessary. In towns euch as New Plymouth there are many students attending the High Schools who wish to take subjects which can be better taught at the Technical College, and vice versa. Arrangements have been made in the past to meet such contingencies, but it is felt that better work and cheaper administration could be achieved if the schools and the college were all part of one institution. Amalgamation has already been brought into effect in Masterton.
