VISIT OF THE ENGLISHMEN, ‘ A FINANCIAL LOSS. By Telegraph.—Press Auoaatfon. Christchurch, Last Night. At the quarterly meeting of the New Zealand Cricket Council, to-night, the chairman (Mr. J. S. Barrett) said they were not in a position to give the financial results of the tour of McLaren’s M.C.C. team, but he regretted to aay it would undoubtedly end in a loss. The figures from* Australia and all the provinces had come * in, except those of Canterbury and Auck-Jt land, and these two were holding the mat-', ter up. The fact remained, however, that*/ * there would be a loss. On the whole..he/ ‘ did not think any member of the counduß/ would regret the visit. As a result of the replies from variqui associations, it was decided to make appii/-? cation to the M.C.C. for leave to corffinue i • with the eight-ball over. In reply to the “watered wicket” allega-i tions, the chairman said he believed enquiry had been held by the Association, and the result forwarded to tMt Wellington Association. Dissatisfaction had) been expressed at the decision and th/K council had been asked to decide the mat* ter. It ha<i been agreed to make enquiry* and the council was waiting for the Wellington Association to fixe a definite data* which would suit that body. Mr. Simpson explained that the Canter/ bury Association had not enquired into the allegation. It had written to'the Wellington Association asking it to assist in tha matter, but Wellington went pai?t the Canterbury Association and on to the council. The Chairman: Then there has been na formal enquiry? I don’t think We can do anything more in the matter except let itl stand over.
