BRAWL AMONG FIREMAN. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Dunedin, April 30. A fireman named Finn, on the steamer Mahia, sustained such serious injury in a brawl on the ship that he was taken to hospital. It is stated that the injured man struck Tomkinson, a greas er, with a hammer, knocking him senseless. The others then dealt with Finn. Tomkinson received attention on tha ship. SEIZURE OF OPIUM. Auckland, April 29. The police yesterday seized a quantity of opium in Grey Street. No arrests have yet been made. DISPUTE OVER VEGETABLES. Wellington, April 30. A dispute has arisen between the growers of vegetables and the auctioneers in connection with alterations in the latter’s charges and the disposal of sacks and boxes. It is stated that the .auctioneers want to sell the containers with the produce, not allowing ths grower anything. Growers threatened to send in their produce loose and thj auctioneers decided to increase the commission on loose produce from 10 to 124 per cent. The producers meet to-night to discuss the matter, the suggestion being that the markets should be boycotted. FIRE AT DARGAVTLLE. Dargaville, April 30. A fire was discovered in Victoria Street in the heart of the town at 10.45 last night in a building owned byCostello and occupied by H. W. Davies, plumber. The building was very old, but the brigade did splendid work and not a great deal of damage was done. The loss is fully covered by insurance.
