Mr. C. E. Monaghan, of New Plymouthleft on Saturday for Wellington on account of the serious illness of his mother. Messrs. Ayling (Inglewood), Milne and Sandford (New Plymouth) have returned from the Dominion Scout Conference al Christchurch. A Sydney message reports the death of Mrs. George Holdship, formerly a recideni of Auckland. A London cablegram states that Mr. Charles Worsley, the New Zealand artist, died in Brescia of bronchial pneumonia. Professor Dettman, of Auckland University College, has been appointed headmaster of the Sydney Grammar School. Misses Jean Mackenzie and J. R. Robbins, school dentists, who have been appointed to take charge of the new dental clinic at the Central Infants’ School at Courtenay Street, arrived in New Plymouth by the mail train on Saturday night. Colonel T. Hunter, C.8.E., Director of Dental Hygiene, will arrive in New Plymouth by the mail train to-night, in connection with the opening of the dental clinic at the Courtenay Street Infants’ School, tomorrow. The death took place in Melbourne, a few days ago, of Brigadier-General Leslie Herbert Kyngdon. who had been prominently associated with the military forces of the Comonwealth for many years. He had been associated with army headquarters in Melbourne as Chief of Ordnance and Commanding Officer of the Royal Australian Garrison Artillery prior to retiring in 1919. He had served in various responsible capacities in every military district in Australia. He joined the permanent forces in New South Wales in 1885. He saw active service in the Soudan campaign, where he won the medal and Khedive Star, and in the South African war, for which he held the Queen’s medal and clasps. General Kyngdon was a brother of Mr. George B. Kyngdon, of New Plymouth, and in his youth he was himself a resident of New Plymouth. A conference of Taranaki Jersey Cattle Clubs, held at Stratford on Saturday, on the motion of Mr. D. O’Sullivan, recommended the New Zealand Jersey Cattle Breeders’ Association to elect Mr. H. E. B. Watson, official cattle demonstrator, an honorary life member of the association. Appreciative references were made to Mr. Watson’s services to the breed. Mr. Wathas resigned his position as demonstrator to the association.
