AGRICULTURAL MATTERS.

TO TARANAKI SOCIETY PREPARATIONS FOR THE SHOW. A meeting of the general committee of the Taranaki Agricultural Society wa* held yesterday afternoon, when Mr. W. B. Grant presided over a good attendance. A copy of an Order-in-Council was received from the Director of Agriculture. It stated that for the purposes of the new regulations the North Island is to, be divided into four districts and one member may be appointed on the recommendation of *uch societies as have their headquarters in each of these districts. In order to determine a member .who will truly represent the farming community each society may nominate one representative. A meeting of accredited delegates from the several societies' will then meet, at a time and place appointed by the metropolitan president, when the new member will be elected by a process of eliminating vot-, ing. As nominations are not due till , February 29 it was thought too early to proceed with the election of delegates. The following recommendations by the executive were approved: 1. That the Education Department be asked to allow Mr. R. Syme to be appointed supervisor of the boys’ apd girls’ cow judging competitions on account of the resignation of Mr. Gohnston as senior agricultural instructor to the board. 2. That hurdles for the leaping competitions be erected on the Monday previous to the show. 3. That Messrs. Pigott, Nolan and McKenzie be asked to peg off lhe ground, for the jumping events, and that this be done the week before the show. 4. That the secretary write for a quotation from the local band for attendance on people’s day. It wa* decided to apply for special stock trains to and from the show. Thanks were expressed to Mr. J. Kurth for his donation of a gold medal fop the winner of the novice class in the female section* and also to Mr. J. Hale for a donation of five guineas towards the prize fund. Messrs. P. M. Glenie, E. James and J. Cavaney were elected new members. A vote of thanks was accorded Mr. F. W. Sutton (inspector of stock) for interesting information regarding brands.
