AN OPERA HOUSE.

FOR NEW PLYMOUTH. 'Elsewhere is printed a notice in eon* nection with th? "New Plymouth Opera House Company, Limited.” The scheme is a very attractive one. The .promoters have themselves subscribed 13,301) shares, and the public is offered 11,700 shares, in respect of which a. dividend representing 64 per cent, is guaranteed from the opening of the theatre. It is proposed to utilise the old Theatre Royal-site, as well as land adjoining that has been acquired, and which fronts Egmont Street, between the A.M.P. building and the State Fire building now in course of erection, and to construct an up-to-date opera houne sufficient for the requirements of thia growing community for many years. The building will also contain shops and offices as well as a considerable basement, which will be used as a dance hall, for meetings, etc. The cost of the land and buildings is estimated at about £35,000. The promoters believe that with the rents, etc., the Opera House can be made to pay at an early date, but to remove all doubt on the* point are undertaking to guarantee dividends to the public on its shares at 6J per cent, for a period of five years from the opening of the building. There is no question whatever but that the absence of a theatre capable of housing the various first-class companies that now miss New Plymouth ia a great drawback to the town, one that is being increasingly felt, and it is the duty of all who have an interest in the town’s welfare to do their beet to *<*- move what is a reproach to a progressive community.

The provisional directors are all so well known as to need no further comment.

As it is imperative that building operations etyould bo commenced without delay, intending investors should secure a. prospectus at once from the secretary (Mr. C. H. Wynyard). The prospectus contains full particulars.
