CROQUET CLUB.
an enjoyable fete. ( With the object of raising funds for the new lawns, the ladies of the New Plymouth Croquet Club held a fete yesterday at the residence of Mrs. H. Greig. The afternoon was beautifully fine and an enjoyable time was spent by the large number present. Produce, cake, and flower stalls all did good business, and several successful competitions were conducted. Golf croquet, putting, quoits, euchre and bridge competitions also added considerably to the enjoyment of the gathering. The stall-holders were: Produce, Mesdames Haseler, A. W. Webster and Valentine; flower, Mesdames Greig, Black and Teed; cake, Mesdames Rocket Dingle and Cowling and Miss Hempton; afternoon tea, Mrs. Harrison (in charge), assisted by members of the club. In charge of the various games were Mrs. Gray (putting), Mesdames Cook and Griffin (quoits), Mrs. Campbell, assisted by young ladies (competitions), Mesdames Hutchen and Courtenay (bridge), Mrs. Morrison (golf croquet). The winners were: Putting, Miss Gwen Bayly; quoits, Miss Hemptou; golf croquet, Mrs. McGahey. The competitions resulted: Cakes, Mrs. Dingle (2) and Mrs. McGahey; fern, Mrs. Nopps; camisole, Mrs. Morrison; doll, Mrs. Foote; tray cloth, Mrs. Douglas; leather Mrs. M, Fraser; child’s nightdress, Mrs. Nopps; Mrs. Morrison’s trays, Miss Barthorpe 1, Mrs. Burgess 2, A. Alexander 3.
