KARL’S FAILURE.

UNDER CLOSE GUARD. FIGHT FOR THRONE. LOYALTY TO FRIENDS, By Telegraph.— Frets Assn.—Copyright. Vienna, Oct. 25. Karl and the ex-Empress Zita have been temporarily interned in the Tihany Benedictine Abbey, 60 miles from Budapest. They are closely guarded by officers of high rank. The Karlists lost 400 killed and 1000 wounded in the last battle. They included 400 Austrian and Bavarian officers. Many of Karl’s political friends and advisers have been arrested. The last stages of the desperate attempt to regain the throne constitute an epic. When his appeal for an armistice was rejected. Karl’s sense of loyalty to the men who had risked honor and life impelled him to fight to a finish. Resuming battle, and hoping gainst hope, he fought a rearguard action, but was severely punished. Many of his followers deserted. The survivors reached a friendly village, and Karl was urged to flee, and eventually, seeing that all was lost,- he fled. The survivors emerged from the village to cover his flight, but were surrounded and threw down their arms. Many officers committed suicide in preference to capture. Karl was arrested 20 miles from the scene of his fight. BRITAIN TO FIX PLACE OF EXILE. London, Oct. 26. It is learned that the Allied Ambassadors have decided to banish Karl. St. Helena is not likely to be chosen because it would provide too theatrical a setting for the end of his adventures. The responsibility of the final destination rests with Britain. THE FINAL PHASES. Berne, Oct. 25. The Federal Council has expelled Karl's suite from Switzerland, including all the members of his family except those necessary to care for Karl’s children, who will remain. London, Oct. 25. Vienna reports state that Karl and the ex-Em press will be temporarily accommodated on board a British vessel on the Danube under the British High Commissioner’s supervision. Vienna, Oct. 26. Karl has abdicated in the name of himself and his son. Paris, Oct. 25. Karl was captured at Totis, 20 miles west of Budapest. He has been temporarily interned in the abbey of Tihany, on the shore o-f Lake Balaton. AN ARCHDUKE ARRESTED. Received Oct. 27. 1.20 p.m. Vienna. Oct. 26. The Archduke Stephen Friedrich has been arrested in connection with Karl's coup. General Lehar escaped.
