SCOTCH FAIR.
ST. ANDREW’S CHURCH FUNCTION, TAKINGS TOTAL £145. A Scotch fair in aid o f the manse fund of the New Ply. mouth Presbyterian Church was opened in the Workers* Hall yesterday afternoon by the Mayor (Mr. F. E Wilson). At the opening ceremony Mr Wilson remarked that this was the first occasion on which the St. Andrew’s congregation had held a sale of work outside of their own hall, and the new departure could be taken as a sign ol growth. During the afternoon the fair was largely patronised, and good business was done. The hall bore an artistic appearance, and the well-laden stalls were attractively arranged. Last night a large number of people were in attendance, and the proceedings were enlivened by an enjoyable musical programme of vocal and instrumental items, which had been arranged by Mr. F. W. G. McLeod. Solos were given by Mrs. A. B. Macdonald, Miss Cocker, Messrs. J. R. Beard, A. B. Macdonald, and W. P. Okey, and a duet was contributed by Mr. and Mrs. MacdonaldL All the items were appreciatively received. Selections rendered by the on chestra were much enjoyed. The personnel was as -follows: Mrs. Skelton (piano), Miss E. Mannix, and Messra R. George and H. Skelton (violins), Mr, W. Blanchett (clarionet), Mr. Bosworth (flute), Mr. E. Fcek (trombone), Mr. S, Cottier (’cello), Mr. Jackson (bass viol), .and Mr. F. W. G. McLeod (eornet), conductor. The fair will be continued to-day, and. to-night another concert will be given, the organiser being Mr. P. Frederic. The list of stall-holders at the fair is as follows: Produce stall and jumble stall.—Bible Class boys. Sweet stall.—Mrs. Taunt, assisted by Misses McCrorie and E. Way. Doll stall.—Miss Barr, assisted by Miss Millar. Flower stall.—Mrs. Alexander, assisted by Miss Reid. Cake stall.—Mesdames Brooker and McCrorie. Plain goods stall.-—Mesdames Ewing, Austin and Fulton. Apron stall.—Mesdames Rea and Leighton. Fancy goods stall.—Bible Class girls, in charge of Mesdames Blundell and Smith. Fish pond.—Mr. Williams. Afternoon tea. —Mrs. Corney, assisted by Mesdames Mac Diarmid and McWhirter, and Miss Taunt. Yesterday’s receipts totalled £145, which was a very gratifying response, and a satisfactory return for the ener- , getic band of workers who had devoted i a good deal of time to the orgaai&a-
